Behavioral Health Specialist I

Opportunity to join the Supportive Community Residential Services division of the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board. Provide behavioral health treatment and case management services as part of a treatment team serving adults at six scattered sites in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. Individuals served have serious mental illness and may have co-occurring substance use and physical disorders. Candidate duties will include skill building, crisis intervention, support services, and completing Medicaid and other billing documentation. Work schedules vary between 7:30 am and 7:30 pm, to include some weekend and holiday shifts. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable working as part of a treatment team in a residential setting. Applicant must have a valid license and be able to drive to various locations within the county.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, sociology, nursing or a related field.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

  • First Aid and CPR certification, within 90 days of appointment and maintained throughout CSB employment;
  • MANDT Certifications within six (6) months of appointment and annually thereafter;
  • Medication Administration Assistance Certification within 90 days of appointment;
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s license with fewer than six demerit points (or the equivalent in another State) at time of appointment and maintained throughout employment with CSB.
  • Qualified Mental Health Professional – Adult (QMHP-A)-Required within 1 month of hire

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry, a driving record check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter. This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Current QMHP-A in Virginia. Experience working with adults as the primary client who are seriously mentally ill in a residential setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Independently drives vehicles; ability to climb stairs, walk, and stand and bend as needed to carry out job duties. Ability to lift and carry up to 15 lbs; observe client behavior/appearance; review and write progress notes in electronic health record (EHR) and staff log. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
