Crisis Counselor- PRN (Pos. #226)
Licensed or license eligible professionals wanted to provide Emergency Services. Applicants must satisfy all Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) certification requirements for the provision of hospital preadmission screenings for voluntary and involuntary hospitalizations in accordance with the Code of Virginia and policies of Colonial Behavioral Health.
Responsibilities include assessment of imminent risk due to mental illness, co-occurring substance use, or intellectual disability, including danger to self, others, or inability to care for self due to mental illness; diagnostic evaluation of persons presenting for emergencies, to include mental status, risk, current functioning, and diagnosis; counseling, supportive interventions, and service linkages to persons in crisis situations. Carry small caseload of short-term crisis counseling clients.
On-call evenings, weekends, and holidays
Master’s Degree with a major course of study in Human Services from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency, in accordance with the requirements of the Virginia Department of Health Professions, and a minimum of one year clinical experience (i.e., Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling); or Virginia Licensed Registered Nurse with 36 months professional work experience with a psychiatric population; or Virginia Licensed Physician’s Assistant with one year professional work experience with a psychiatric population); DBHDS Preadmission Screening Certificate.
