Day Support Counselor (Part-time)
High school diploma or GED; some college coursework preferred; experience in giving direct behavioral and hygiene care to individuals with intellectual disabilities or related experience in a human services field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The applicant should have experience with a personal computer or laptop as the position requires basic computer skills, including word processing and typing skills. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Must be familiar with writing or summarizing daily documentation of consumer services. Must be comfortable working within a class structure, engaging persons, and assisting individuals with intellectual disabilities. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
This position helps complete basic word processing assignments and writes daily documentation on consumers’ services. Delivers personal care, facilitates various classes, and assists persons while in the community for trips, activities, and/or instructional classes. Collects data as required to document the delivery of services. The job is center-based at a community day program and can occur in the community for volunteer and recreational program activities.
