The Director of Community Based Behavioral Health and Prevention (hereinafter The Director) is responsible for the overall management of community based behavioral health and prevention services provided by Rockbridge Area Community Services. The Director directly oversees and manages the following services: Therapeutic Day Treatment (TDT), Psychiatric Rehabilitation (Eagles Nest Clubhouse) and Transitional Living Program. The Director directly supervises the Program Managers for RACS Community Support Services, Case Management Services for SED children and SMI adults as well as Prevention Services.


The Director reports to and receives general supervision from the Executive Director. The Director is responsible for providing administrative and clinical supervision to all staff assigned for as a direct supervisor.  The Director assures day-to-day operations of the programs assigned, develops clinical and prevention programs as needed, assists the CFO in budget development and preparation for the programs assigned with program manager involvement as indicated.  Monitors revenue generation and expenses and assures sound fiscal oversight of programs assigned.  The Director participates in attending local, regional and Statewide meetings as required by the position.  The Director is responsible for assuring all required internal and State reporting is completed in a timely manner and keeps the Executive Director informed on key initiatives and programming needs.  When necessary, the position may provide direct service supports for all programs assigned.  The Director remains informed of new and available resources related to programs overseen by the position and keeps the Executive Director informed as indicated.


In carrying out assigned position responsibilities, the Director should require minimal supervision in carrying out their normal job duties.  The position is required to interact with a variety of executive leadership in local, regional, and state capacities and professionally represent RACS in all such contacts.  The Director is required to exercise sound judgment; work cooperatively, rely on experience and judgment to devise procedures and methods; participate in formulating and carrying out policies, objectives, and programs; demonstrate initiative, flexibility and problem-solving skills; be able to work both independently and as a team member; and, maintain a high degree of confidentiality. The position reports directly to the Executive Director and serves as a member of the RACS Leadership Team.



The incumbent must possess:

  • Graduate Degree in a related human services field from an accredited college or university
  • A license as a LPC, LCP, or LCSW in Virginia is preferred
  • Five years’ experience in program administration
  • A valid Virginia Driver’s license
