Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Marketing, or a related Human Services field; one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities such as mental illness or developmental disabilities; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of Individual Placement and Support Model of employment services and practice principles is desired, as well as basic knowledge of how benefits impact work for pay. Experience working in the mental health field. This position requires excellent skills in marketing and job development, strong written and verbal communication skills, proven organizational skills and resourcefulness in problem solving. Requires the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, work independently, follow through with delegated tasks, demonstrate excellent customer service and strong cultural competency, and adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines. Must be flexible as hours may change based on job coaching responsibilities. QMHP preferred. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. Duties Offer Individual Placement and Support services to people who have been diagnosed with a serious mental illness based on Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Model, an evidenced based practice. Responsibilities include assessment of individual strengths, skills, abilities and preferences, job development and job search activities directed towards positions that are individualized to interests and uniqueness of each person, and helping individuals secure and maintain competitive employment consistent within their vocational goals. The ability to develop individual employment service plans, collaborate to ensure accurate benefits counseling, and support people in overcoming barriers to individual employment plans is a critical component of the position. The Employment Specialist will manage an active employment caseload of 15-20 people at a time while providing follow along services for employed members as needed. Approximately 65% of total scheduled work hours will be spent in the community developing relationships with local businesses / community partners and meeting with individuals in community settings (at least 5 hours each day most days). The Employment Specialist must be skilled at developing and maintaining community relations. Documentation will be completed in an electronic medical record. Perform other work as required.
