Licensed Mental Health Professional (LCSW or LPC) - Part-Time

The City of Chesapeake is seeking an in-house, part-time, special project Licensed Clinician I who will provide services to support the mental health and overall well-being of City employees. The Licensed Clinician I will allow employees easy access to mental health support when needed and will coordinate additional resources when appropriate.
Specific duties and responsibilities of the Licensed Clinician I will include the following:

- Meet with City employees to determine the exact nature of their mental health concerns and create personalized strategies that help the individuals work toward their desired mental healthcare outcomes by way of mental health assessment.
- Provide individualized counseling to address identified concerns impacting employees’ work performance (e.g., personal and/or work relationships, healthcare concerns, substance use, stress management) to help individuals address their social and emotional needs.
- Coordinate and link participation in additional programs and/or healthcare follow-up as needed, including handling mandated referrals from departmental leadership for counseling, and serving as case manager for fitness-for-duty assessments.
- Evaluate needs and recommend psychiatric treatment and/or counseling, if necessary. Within the scope of clinical privileges, identify potential mental health diagnoses and provide patient education.
- Provide emergency crisis assessment, intervention, and safety planning as needed, including critical incident debriefings. Institute precautionary measures to prevent patient injury, interpersonal violence, or suicide.
- Assist with the development, coordination, and implementation of mental health and wellness awareness campaigns for the City. Areas of emphasis may include national monthly themes such as stress management, suicide prevention, alcohol awareness, sexual assault prevention, depression, exercise, nutrition, and tobacco cessation.
- Participate in continuing education to remain knowledgeable in the latest methodologies for mental health counseling and to meet licensure requirements.
- Apply an awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and strive to manage situations in a reduced-risk manner.
- Prepare and maintain confidential case management records and anonymized summary reports.
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires a Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, or other degree as approved by the Virginia Department of Health Professions. Requires a current license with the VA Board of Counseling or Social Work.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this job classification requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

- Requires State of Virginia licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LPC), Clinical Psychologist (LCP).
- May consider as a marginal (under-grade) applicant a Resident-in-Counseling or Supervisee-in-Social Work applicant who is currently registered with the Board of Health Professions with the ability to obtain licensure within the probationary period.
- Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
