Essential Duties
Position is responsible for providing a wide range of clinical services to clients in an urban community mental health setting. Job duties include evaluation and assessment procedures, along with conducting various individual, family and group counseling sessions. The applicant should have well developed skills to effectively manage a diverse client caseload, be an effective communicator, and have sufficient written and computer skills to complete detailed authoritative clinical records and professional communications. Additionally, extensive knowledge about and experience working with substance abuse problems and related mental health difficulties is required. Job duties require evening work.   Considerable knowledge of principles of community mental health and/or development disabilities and/or substance abuse; considerable knowledge and understanding of fundamental concepts of normal and abnormal human behavior, personality development, family and group dynamics; considerable knowledge of and an ability to apply a variety of psychotherapeutic treatment techniques/modalities; adherence to basic ethics appropriate for a professional helping relationship; knowledge of mental health diagnoses, assessment, and/or psychological and educational testing; some knowledge of consultation program; considerable knowledge of psychosocial history development; very good interviewing and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; demonstrated ability to act with good judgment.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a two (2)-year master’s degree in clinical social work, psychology or a directly related field plus one (1) year of experience in a mental health setting [for a one-year degree, one(1) additional year of experience or an internship is required to replace the second year of formal training]; OR, a bachelor’s degree in related field plus four (4) years of experience in a community mental health setting; OR, any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Additional Information
LPC or LCSW is required. Co-occurring experience in mental health and substance abuse strongly preferred. Valid Virginia Driver’s license required. TB Screening and Child Protective Services Record Check is required, upon hire. A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee. Must hold or be qualified to work toward licensure or accreditation for the appropriate discipline.
