Job Summary
- The Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services is seeking a talented and motivated individual to serve as Emergency Services Clinician. The primary role of this position is to provide direct diagnostic, preventive and treatment services including crisis intervention to youth who are at risk or have Serious Emotional Disturbance, individuals with a Developmental Disability, individuals with substance use disorders and/or adults with Serious Mental Illness (SMI). The Emergency Services clinician facilitates the civil commitment process and engages in daily clinical and procedural consultations with other MHSADS programs and public and private community partners. This position works in the 24-hour, state mandated emergency services program.
Successful candidates excel in complex, fast paced environments and are passionate about crisis work, supporting community crisis response with creative problem solving, adaptability to rapidly changing, often competing changes in demands for service, and a collaborative approach to community services. Work schedule Includes Weekends, Holidays and overnights.
Job Summary
- Provides Emergency Services (Provides crisis intervention services or implements crisis plans with individuals; participates in coordination of services, including crisis, long term, recovery, and individualized service plans).
- Provides Crisis Interventions and Evaluations (Evaluates voluntary and involuntary individuals who, as a result of a mental illness, are substantially likely to cause serious physical harm to themselves and/or others or suffer serious harm because they lack the capacity to provide for their own basic needs or self-protection. Connects individuals to appropriate treatment to include outpatient, intensive outpatient, partial hospital, ambulatory crisis, residential Crisis Stabilization Units (CSU), inpatient, and/or Psychiatric services (pursuant to 37.2-805 and 16.1-338; 37.2-809 and 16.1-338-339, 16.1-340.1).
- Participates in Civil Commitment Hearings (Pursuant to the Virginia Code: 37.2-817B and 16.1-344C) and Provides (1) Representation of the preadmission screening report and the Community Services Board, (2) recommendations for ongoing treatment, including Mandatory Outpatient Treatment (MOT); and (3) if Mandatory Outpatient Treatment is ordered, develops the initial treatment plan, arranges for the connection to treatment, and monitoring of the court order (Pursuant to 37.2-817C1-K, 37.2-817.1, 37.2-817.2, 37.2-817.3, and 16.1-345.2, 16.1-345.3, 16.1-345.4, and 16.1-345.5).
- Evaluates High Risk Clients (Conducts prevention and/or intervention assessments and evaluations of high-risk clients with complex mental health and/or substance abuse treatment, or developmental needs).

Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree; license eligible within one (1) year of hire or possess professional licensure through the VA Department of Health Professions Board as a: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW); Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC); Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT); Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP). Two (2) years of professional experience working with individuals who have a mental health and/or substance use diagnosis, which may include internship experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification – Preadmission Screening Clinician (CPASC)
- Bilingual (English and Spanish)
