CERTIFIED PREADMISSIONS SCREENING CLINICIAN – PRN/ON CALL

This is an On-Call / Per Diem / Part-Time position.  Shift: Variable, including evenings, weekends, holidays.  The On-Call Crisis Services Therapist provides immediate mental health crisis assessment, intervention, and stabilization services to individuals experiencing acute psychological distress. The clinician ensures a compassionate, timely, and clinically appropriate response to behavioral health emergencies. This On-Call Mobile Crisis Services Therapist plays a vital role in responding to individuals experiencing behavioral health crises. This position provides immediate, trauma-informed mental health assessment, intervention, and stabilization services across a variety of settings including homes, community spaces, hospital emergency departments, and over the phone. The therapist works as part of a mobile crisis team to ensure timely, compassionate, and clinically appropriate responses to psychiatric emergencies. Individuals can sign up for shifts for either the On-Call Crisis Services Therapist or the On-Call Mobile Crisis Services Therapists positions. The flat rate is $150.00 per shift. If a call is received or a pre-screen is conducted:
  • 1 to 90 minutes: $150.00
  • 91 to 180 minutes: $200.00
  • Over 180 minutes: $250.00

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to mental health crisis calls (via phone or in-person).
  • Conduct clinical assessments to determine risk factors including suicidality, homicidality, psychosis, or severe emotional distress.
  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and short-term supportive counseling.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, EMS, hospital staff, and other emergency responders as needed.
  • Determine the appropriate level of care and assist with referrals or hospitalization if necessary.
  • Document all encounters and assessments accurately and in compliance with clinical and legal standards.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Licensure (resident in counseling) in [LCSW, LPC, LMFT].
  • At least 1 year of experience in crisis intervention, emergency psychiatric services, or acute mental health settings preferred.
  • Must have, or be eligible to obtain, certification as a pre-screener for emergency hospitalization in Virginia within six months of hire.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and high-risk individuals (e.g., severe mental illness, co-occurring disorders, youth in crisis).
  • Must meet all criminal background and drug screening requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record, required.
