City Mental Health and Wellness Clinician

The City of Virginia Beach’s Department of Human Resources-Occupational Health and Safety Services seeks an innovative and forward-thinking Mental Health and Wellness Clinician This position will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive wellness and safety programs to promote a healthy and safe work environment for the City’s Public Safety Departments and other identified groups. The City Mental Health and Wellness Clinician will be responsible for research, assessment and coordination of case management, and the implementation of various mental health, wellness and resiliency programs. The City Mental Health and Wellness Clinician will ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations and City policies, collaborating with department representatives to design, execute, and evaluate wellness and resilience initiatives. The ideal candidate will perform complex assessments, treatment planning, clinical intervention, case management, consultation and counseling duties as well as provide recommendations for issues pertaining to employee medical assessment. The successful candidate will also possess a strong work ethic and is able to navigate various work environments and employee groups while providing tailored guidance based on City and departmental needs. This role is instrumental in fostering a culture of well-being among public safety personnel. Your efforts will contribute to enhancing the overall health and effectiveness of these dedicated professionals, ensuring they receive the support they deserve as they protect and serve our City. Key duties of this position include:
  • Design, implement, and evaluate workplace wellness programs focusing on physical, mental, and emotional health.
  • Collect and analyze data related to wellness program participation and outcomes.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate program effectiveness and recommendations for improvement.
  • Organize wellness events, challenges, and campaigns to engage employees and promote healthy behaviors.
  • Act as a resource for employees seeking information or support related to wellness and safety concerns.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to program participation, health metrics, and employee feedback.
  • Assist in developing and updating wellness policies, procedures, and guidelines that align with city regulations and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to employee wellness programs.

  • Conduct workshops, seminars, and training sessions on wellness topics to educate and empower employees to make healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Create educational materials and resources to promote wellness initiatives and encourage participation.
  • Critically analyze incident reports and statistics to identify injury/illness trends to determine areas for increased training and to provide regular reporting to stakeholders
  • Conduct individual or group evaluations/assessments and recommend appropriate resources and services to improve psycho-social functioning
  • Assess mental wellness offerings for each department/identified group by tracking the utilization of programs
  • Collaborate with departments and leadership to develop and implement employee wellness policies and programs
  • Implement and support mental health education and awareness initiatives to improve the overall health and quality of life for public safety employees
  • Perform clinical administrative functions, including case management functions related to service referrals, coordination of care, monitoring/follow-up, and case documentation to support quality control systems to improve clinical services
  • Regularly provide analysis on organization trends developing and implementing change management initiatives to assist departments in achieving organizational goals
