At Encompass Community Supports, our full-time employees work 37.5 hours weekly. Our Nurse – Substance Use Disorder Inpatient provides and/or assists with care, counseling, education and consultation to clients; Work is performed under regular supervision. SOME OF THE ESSETIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Evaluates pre-screenings, conducts intake assessments including CIWA/COWS to determine appropriateness for admission.
  • Consults with referral sources about medication and health treatment plan/order medications; keeps stock medications; assesses clients for special diets; performs AIMS; gives injections; assists clients with obtaining medications.
  • Orders prescribed and over the counter medications; maintain medication stock; performs medication counts each shift; maintains STAT box; disposes of unused/expired medications.
  • Develops, shares, research, and provides client education about medications, STD/HIV/other illness and about addiction and withdrawal.
  • Provides HIV/other diseases education as well as substance abuse counseling.
  • Provides crisis intervention and medical services for residential clients when needed.
  • Documents in clients records on a daily basis; assists with treatment plan; complies with agency and regulatory requirements.
  • Works with other tech as a team to provide case coordination with clients and community resources to assure continuity of care; performs environmental management assisted by tech.
  • Participate in clinical staffing, shift report, and other meetings.
  • Ability to meet in-person, staff, peers and leadership at various workplaces on a regular basis; ability to attend trainings and other work-related meetings when requested or required.
  • Train new staff including detox techs.
  • Administers TB test/screening to clients and staff.
  • Be available for calls after hours and be able to fill in for other staff if needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, standards, practices and techniques of professional nursing; thorough knowledge of the dangers inherent in and the precautions to be taken in the use of narcotics and other medications.
  • Thorough knowledge of evidenced based treatment, diagnostic, immunization and related medical services for clients.
  • Thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies pertaining to nursing services of the agency.
  • Ability to accurately maintain patient medical records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, physicians and associates.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, to include Word and Excel.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School diploma or equivalency; any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited licensed practical nursing program;
  •  must be a licensed Practical Nurse allowed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia or associate’s degree in nursing;
  • must be a licensed Registered Nurse allowed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • At least 1 year of experience in nursing, substance disorders, and/or mental health are required, 3 preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • This work requires light physical effort working almost exclusively with lightweight materials (up to 25 pounds).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid Virginia Driver’s License
