REGIONAL HOUSING SPECIALIST - CHARLOTTESVILLE (FULL TIME)

REQ#: 90800000 GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a FLSA Non-Exempt position. The Regional Housing Specialist performs professional services in the form of guidance and subject matter expertise on available and appropriate residential services, supports, and housing resources for consumers being serviced by the public mental health system in Region 1. The Incumbent responds to the needs of the Community Services Board (CSB) hospital liaisons and other regional program staff around housing resources, provider information, and rate negotiations. They communicate frequently with residential providers in Region 1 and throughout the state. The Incumbent identifies gaps in housing resources and opportunities to build community capacity. Their work is performed under the supervision of the Region 1 Regional Initiatives Projects Manager. QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with course work in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Health Services or a related field; moderate experience working with individuals with behavioral health disorders and/or intellectual disabilities in a behavioral health setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years’ experience in housing counseling and/or property management. Work with individuals discharged from state psychiatric facilities preferred. The Incumbent needs to possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of: • Resources within the community, agency, region and state for the CSB population; • Several different benefit/funding sources (i.e. Auxiliary Grant, Medicaid, Medicare, DAP, etc.); • Human development and behavior. Skills in: • Interviewing; • Supportive counseling; • Social Casework; • Preparing clear and concise reports. Ability to: • Analyze facts and exercise sound judgement in arriving at conclusions; • Solve problems within scope of responsibility; • Communicate complex ideas effectively, orally and in writing; • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with consumers, medical professionals, community partners, agencies, co-workers, and the general public. Working Conditions: The Regional Initiatives office provides oversight of regional initiatives serving 9 CSBs. Solid, reliable, 40 hours per week attendance is a business necessity in order to provide continuous, organized, professional services and maintain up to date records and complete assigned tasks to ensure objectives are met. The Incumbent must be willing and available to work a modified schedule to include weekends, holidays, etc. as needed and in discussion with supervisor. Use of annual leave must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance to allow for appropriate temporary assistance to be assured for coverage. Unplanned leave is a job performance factor. This position is a highly mobile position and the Incumbent must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license.
