RN Unit Manager
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is looking for a licensed Registered Nurse with two (2) or more years of experience working with adults with physical or intellectual disabilities to work as the
RN Unit Manager for the Developmental Services division. Here’s the exciting part – the selected candidate will qualify for a

Responsibilities:
- Provide biological, psychological, and social assessments of clients.
- Use all aspects of the nursing process to facilitate the healthcare objectives of the Individual Program Plan (IPP).
- Collaborate with members of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) and other health care professionals in the community to ensure the objectives of the IPP are met as well as the welfare, health, and safety of the individuals we serve.
- Provide technical support, teaching, and training to non-licensed staff regarding health care services and medication administration.
- Supervise Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) completing performance evaluations, competencies, and training for licensed staff.
- Complete quality assurance review of client records specific to the healthcare management of the individual.
- Participate in training, meetings, and participate in community engagements to further support the individuals residing in the ICF.
- Establish work schedules, monitor and approve LPN leave requests, and report to the Nurse Manager on the use of overtime.
- Provide on-call coverage on a rotating basis along with the team of RN’s.

Preferences:
- Two (2) years of professional experience as a Registered Nurse
- One (1) or more years of supervisory/performance management experience
- Experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities
- Nursing experience in a long-term care or Intermediate Care Facility
- Experience with staff orientation, education, and/or training

Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original full-time employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.
- $1,250 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
- $1,750 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
- $2,000 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.

Minimum Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications: Requires current and valid licensure as a Registered Nurse by the State of Virginia or as a part of the Compact Designation (Multi-State Privileges) and two (2) or more years of clinical experience to be specified by the hiring department. Current CPR certification. Must have a current and valid driver’s license. Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. This position may require that incumbents to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, safety footwear, hard hats, safety eyewear, gloves, or other safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employee’s supervisor based on position assignments. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination.
